Weekend catch-up: Blogger meet-up and the Oscars

This past weekend was fabulous!  On Saturday, I attended a DFW blogger meet-up organized by Kileen of Cute and Little, and it was so much fun!  Just look at all that fashion in that picture!

We started the event by having brunch at Cibus...yummy!  I had vanilla french toast, which was to die for!  The restaurant also offered bottomless bellinis and mimosas for brunch, which many of us indulged in.  I'd never had a bellini before, and it was SO good!  But don't worry...we kept it classy.  :)

After brunch, we headed over to the Dior counter at Dillards and received makeovers.  We got to try out different Dior beauty items and cosmetics - so fun!  What girl doesn't love a makeover?  All in all, it was a great time.  Later this week, I'll put up a post with more photos.

Sunday was mostly a lazy day, but I of course watched the Oscars.  Overall, I was pleased with the results.  There weren't really too many surprises.

But this is fashion blog, right?  So let's talk about the fashion!

Favorites:

Natalie Portman, wearing Rodarte
Natalie Portman

I adored this look on Natalie Portman.  The cut was appropriate for her growing belly, and she definitely has that pregnancy glow.  The color is absolutely stunning on her, but I, of course, am partial to jewel tones.

Mila Kunis, wearing Elie Saab
Mila Kunis

Black Swan co-star looked equally ravishing in this gorgeous lavender gown.  It's super soft and feminine, and I especially love the neckline.

Amy Adams, wearing, L'Wren Scott
Amy Adams

Amy Adams was stunning in this gown!  The fit was perfect, and that sapphire blue looked beautiful on her.

Camila Alves, wearing Kaufman Franco

So much for "little" black dress!  Camila looks beautiful in this classic black gown.  The plunging neckline is sexy, but the full skirt keeps it elegant and timeless.

Scarlett Johansson, wearing Dolce & Gabbana
Best and Worst-Dressed at the Oscars!

Scarlett always looks great in D&G!  The color is fantastic, but my favorite part of this gown is the opening in the back.  The dress is sexy, but super elegant.

Not feeling it:

Gwyneth Paltrow, wearing Calvin Klein
Gwyneth Paltrow

This Calvin Klein dress has actually placed Gwyneth on many best dressed lists, but I feel like it's comparable to her singing attempts: people keep telling her it's a lot greater than it actually is.  Unfortunately, though I may love her films, I wan't feeling this dress.  She mentioned on the red carpet that she'd like to make music with Jay-Z, so maybe she can be the disco ball in one of his music videos.

Melissa Leo, wearing, Marc Bouwer
Melissa Leo

This also managed to make some best dressed lists, but I thought the dress looked like an over-sized doily.  Melissa's got an incredible amount of talent, but this dress just irks me the wrong way.

Reese Witherspoon, wearing Armani Prive

I must be going against the grain this year because this, too, made several best dressed lists.  However, it was a little too reminiscent of a high school prom for me, and I would have loved to see Reese wearing something a little more modern and sophisticated.  The dress, the hair...it's just all a little too much for me.

Nicole Kidman, wearing Dior

I usually love Nicole's choices, but this dress had a little bit too much going on for me.  I also don't think it's the most flattering with those wings coming out of her hips.  Her husband, however, looked wonderful.  :)

Helena Bonham Carter, wearing Colleen Atwood

I'm all for self expression, but I wish Helena would have brought a little more class to the Oscars.  The velvet, the hair, and the fan make her look like she's ready for a costume party.

So there you have it - my best and worst dressed list.  Of course, these are all my personal opinions, and you may agree and disagree as you see fit.  Regardless of their fashion taste, I believe all of these women are beautiful and talented.

What were some of your favorite looks?  Did I leave any out?

Love your comments regarding the Oscar dresses. Melissa Leo is a phenomenal actress, but she looks like Elvis's doily. Crazy. And I couln't agree more regarding your comments about Gwyneth Paltrow. I don't get it.

It was great meeting you on Saturday!

I feel the exact same way about Gwyneth's dress and her singing. My fave is Mila Kunis.

Hey Jessica! Man I'm jealous of that blogger meetup, looks like fun :) And I'm loving the purplepinkyblueish dresses spotlighted here. The Black Swan ladies were my fave :)

@JNRSI think people feel obligated to tell her everything is wonderful because she's usually so great, but I say stick to acting. :)

@MONKEYFACE
The meetup was SO fun! The Black Swan Ladies definitely take top honors for me as well. I still need to see the film, though!

Thanks for commenting on my blog!

That's so cool you went to a blogger meet up! Sounds like you had a lot of fun!

I'm so bummed I missed the Oscars, but I agree with a lot of your likes and dislikes for the red carpet. I'm so disappointed in Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman! They usually look so classy. Oh well, can't always look the best I guess!

@Mimi
You're right - the hair might have been cute without the dress, but together I just don't think it works. Maybe next time, Reese!
