History's beauty

At my core, I'm a nerd.  There's no denying it.  And so is Caleb...don't let him tell you otherwise.  Perhaps this is why we get giddy about seeing Mayan ruins.  The history of it all never ceases to amaze us!  While some want to lay out by the beach all day sipping margaritas, we're happy to get off the resort and learn first-hand.

Imagine our surprise when we got the best of both worlds at the Tulum ruins...

Yes, that is a beach - and the most beautiful beach I've ever had the privilege to experience, for that matter.  The ruins in and of themselves were breathtaking, but the beach was to die for.  Tulum was built on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and the views take your breath away.

Caleb and I were in awe of the beauty surrounding us...Tulum is truly a special place.  The Mayans knew what they were doing!

The sand was soft beneath our feet, and the colors of the water were stunning.

The water was the perfect temperature, too!

After a great history lesson and a dip in the ocean, fresh coconut provided the perfect refreshment - yum!

Later in the afternoon, I got to cross something off my bucket list I've wanted to do for a very long time - swimming with dolphins!  They're such intelligent creatures, and I'm never amazed by all the tricks they learn and how effortlessly they interact with humans.  We even got to go on a dolphin belly ride - so fun!  Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take cameras into the facility and the prices for photos taken by staff were outrageous, so I don't have any pictures of the fun...but at least I have the memories!

That evening, Caleb and I had a special dinner prepared by the lead chef at the resort.  I had mahi-mahi smothered in avocado sauce, and it was delicious!  Later we headed over to the lobby bar for some pictures.

It was another great day with the one I love!
