One last go around

Autumn is right around the corner, so I decided to break out some brights for one of the last days of summer.  I hadn't worn this dress since my vacation in May, and I thought it deserved one more outing before scarves, tights, and rich fall hues take over.

Scarf swap

I'm officially back from vacation, and what better way to get back into the swing of things than with a swap?!

Sometimes I'm cheesy

I wore this outfit on a date night with my husband, but let's cut to the chase.  There are few things I love more than date nights with my husband...especially date nights that involve chips and queso.

History's beauty

At my core, I'm a nerd.  There's no denying it.  And so is Caleb...don't let him tell you otherwise.  Perhaps this is why we get giddy about seeing Mayan ruins.  The history of it all never ceases to amaze us!  While some want to lay out by the beach all day sipping margaritas, we're happy to get off the resort and learn first-hand.

Jungle tours and a moonlit swim

Our first full day in Mexico was definitely a memorable one.  We started off the morning with a zip-lining tour over the jungle at Xtreme Kingdom - which was so fun!  We've zip-lined on several other occasions (even at a different park last year in Cancun), but I never get bored of it.  On this trip, we got to zip-line upside down!  It was so exhilarating!  We bought the photos to prove it, so I'll put them up as soon as I get around to scanning them.

Two days away

Today was a beautiful day!  It was a little cooler than it's been lately, but it was a nice change.

Texas in March

The following message is directed at anyone who lives in a climate where they have weather in the 70s year-round:

I envy you.

It's beginning to feel a lot like spring-time

It feels like spring!!  It's so hard to believe that there was snow on the ground just a week ago.  This only further demonstrates the bi-polar nature of Texas weather.  You never know what to expect!

While I love bundling up with cute scarves, I've mention before that I am a certified wuss when it comes to cold weather.  I don't know weather or not (haha) the warmth is here to stay, but I've been taking full advantage of 70 degree weather.

Night out

Last night, I attended a bachelor/bachelorette party.  The guys and gals ate dinner at separate restaurants, and then we all met up at Pete's Dueling Piano Bar.  Afterward, some of us when to the bachelorette's apartment to hang out some more.

It's June!

And by June, I of course mean my wonderful pup.  I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but our adorable little dog was a wedding gift, and since Caleb and I married in June, we named our sweet girl after the memorable month.  June is a wonderful companion, and she keeps me company while I study, work, and do, well, everything else I do around the house.  In fact, she's sleeping on my lap as I type.  She's so precious.

After much frustration, I got the memory card to work...hooray!

I am beyond excited to get things kicking again!!  However, today I spent the day in my pajamas.  Winter has attacked Texas with a mighty force.

Feeling festive

Last night's Christmas party went wonderfully!  We had some delicious drinks, scrumptious desserts, and quirky gifts.  What could be better?


After the party, my friends Sarah and Faye stayed for a ladies' night.  It was the perfect end to the perfect evening.


I didn't think to pull out my camera during the party, but, as promised, I did captures some photos of my party outfit, which I absolutely loved!  I felt so festive!  Let me know what you think...

Let me just say that I am so excited to do some fun writing right now!!

Today marked the official end of my third semester in grad school.  All of my final papers are turned in, and I feel so wonderful to have completed this semester!  [insert sigh of relief here]

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely LOVE school.  But when final papers come up, I spend a whole lot of hours staring at a computer screen and typing.  I wrote a paper for hours on end yesterday, and I was way too exhausted to make a blog post.  But, alas, I have returned refreshed and revived.  (Alliteration, much?)

The hubby, Caleb, and I went out for dinner and drinks tonight, and it provided some much needed downtime.  I got to chow down on one of my favorite foods - fish tacos...yum!  The thought of them used to gross me out, but the last time I visited my brother in San Diego he finally convinced me to try one, and I've been hooked ever since.  So if you made a squishy face at the mention of fish tacos, open your mind!  They are de-lish!

Going out for dinner was kind of a last minute idea, so I didn't have much time to get ready.  I wanted to put something together that didn't take a whole lot of thought but would still be cute for a date night.  I grabbed a tank with a little front ruffle detail and a cardigan and matched them up with some skinny jeans and flats...always an easy look.  I decided to try peep toe flats one more time before the weather becomes too terribly cold.  Since I live in Texas, I can push this more than most states.

I slicked my hair back with a headband and added some fun earrings and a large ring.  And by the way, I've had a thing for rings lately.  I used to never wear them...literally.  Well, I've always worn my engagement and wedding rings on my left hand, but I used to never wear anything on my right hand.  For some reason, it would drive me crazy.  I'd be bothered by the ring on my right hand and eventually take it off.

Then it hit me - I like rings.  Every time I'd look at an accessory section I'd always glance that way, but I wouldn't dare touch.  So, I decided I needed to get over my weird ring phobia and suck it up.  I bought several rings last week, and I've loved every minute with them.  I want more!

To top off my look, I grabbed a colorful clutch, which I absolutely love.  It's my go-to clutch when I want to infuse a little color into my ensemble.  I grabbed a simple black blazer and headed out the door.  I was date ready!  (And hungry.)

I recruited Caleb as my photographer.  I learned very quickly that self-portraits are not easy!
