Fall-ing back to summer?

leather jacket: ONLY, via Wilson's Leather (similar faux option)
sweater: TJ Maxx (similar)
corduroy skirt: Forever 21 (cute option)
tights: Nine West, via Marshall's (similar)
boots: Diba, via DSW (similar light brown version)
infinity scarf: Forever 21 (similar)
sunglasses: Forever 21 (splurge or save)

The weather in Texas today is what most meteorologists would describe as "unseasonably warm."  We're pushing the 80s here, people!  What happened to fall and the glorious layers of scarves and tights and cardigans that come with it?!

While I'm sporting a short sleeve shirt and a skirt (without tights) in today's November heat wave, I'm thankful for the cooler days we've had this season...like last Wednesday when I wore this outfit.

So, fall (do you prefer the more formal 'autumn,' dear season of mine?), if you're listening, feel free to come back to Texas at anytime.  My closet will thank you with seasonably appropriate ensembles.

p.s. If you have a few minutes, would you please fill out this survey about health?  It's for a research paper I'm working on for my Sociology of Health class, but don't worry...all answers are anonymous.  Thanks!

Rainy weather fashion

Rain, rain, go away

We've had some pretty gloomy weather in these parts lately, and it's no secret that I hate the rain.  However, the weather would be far more tolerable if I was splashing through puddles in this cute rain-ready outfit.

Do you like rainy weather?

Rust

This rust-colored cardigan is quickly becoming one of my fall favorites.  It just seems to be one of those weird colors that goes with just about everything...you know what I mean?

T-Hee

On Tuesday night, my friend Kendra (from Low Cost, High Style) and I attended a blogger meetup at a cute little shop in Dallas called T-Hee.  Truth be told, we were beyond fashionably late.  The event was from 6-8, and we didn't get there until right before 8.  I didn't get off of work until 6:15, and I still had to go home, change, and drive to the other side of the metroplex.  It was still fun to check out the shop though, and, of course, I always enjoy spending time with Kendra.

A trip to the theater

Caleb and I had a fantastic date night last Friday: we went to see the play To Kill a Mockingbird at a theater that my friend works at.  (If you're reading this Faye, thanks so much for the tickets!)  It was an absolutely fantastic production!   Caleb and I were especially blown away by the talent of the young actors.  They really have bright futures ahead of them!

Fashion Blogger Fall Trend Report: Polka dots

The bloggers over at Fashables were kind enough to invite me to participate in their Fall Fashion Blogger Trend Report.  As soon as I got the email, I knew which trend I wanted feature: polka dots.  Who can resist such a fun, classic print?

The trend report features 17 fall trends, with contributions from some fabulous bloggers, including the lovely ladies of Grit & Glamour, House of Jeffers, and fellow DFW blog My Fashion Juice.  It's chock-full great information, so I hope you'll check it out.  You can see more photos of my polka dot shoot after the jump.

Cooling down

Texas has been teasing us with on-and-off cooler weather, and I am so looking forward to warm layers and fall colors.  Summer seemed like it was never going to end!  I couldn't help but throw on a pair of tights at the earliest sign of dropping temperatures.  Of course, with the heat wave that seemed to take over these past few months, anything below 90 degrees feels like a relief!

Weather woes

waiting for winter

Everyone is talking about the weather in the Dallas right now - and with good reason.  It's ridiculous when a city celebrates when the high is only 97 and not 107 degrees.  Lately, I'm so uncomfortably warm that I don't feel cute in anything, so, until the weather cools down, I'll be dreaming of winter and pretty, layered outfits.

I'd rather be swing dancing

Not gonna lie...I felt like swing dancing in this outfit.

But, alas, swing dancing was not on my schedule.  Instead, I went to class and took a test.  A long test.  Meaning I wrote for 2 hours and 20 minutes straight and experienced intense hand cramps.  All in the name of education, people.

Coming home

in resort lobby, before leaving for airport

Leaving vacation is always bittersweet.  Caleb and I had a phenomenal time in the Riviera Maya, and there's not a thing we would change.

Last full day in Riviera Maya

Like every other day on our Riviera Maya trip, our last day was full of fun and excitement.  It was definitely Caleb's favorite day because we got to visit the ruins in the old Mayan city of Coba.  It's in the thick of the jungle, so it included a lot of walking (and, ahem, sweating), but it was so cool to visit what was once a thriving city.

Remixing my Easter dress

The weather today was beautiful!  The same front that brought thunderstorms to north Texas yesterday brought cooler weather today, which provided the perfect opportunity for a final spring love affair with a blazer and tights.  I don't know if the cooler weather will stick for a few days or not, but this is probably one of the last times you'll see me sporting these kinds of pieces for months.

Reflections on a fashion journey

I truly believe that finding a personal style is a journey.  You don't roll out of bed one day with the makings of an icon.  Discovering your signature style is a process, and I'm a firm believer that this process should not be rushed.

Dressing for me

I always enjoy editing my pictures.  I'm no pro, but it's a good time to look at what I wore and reflect.  Some days I realize I don't really like how I styled an outfit, and other days I love the final outcome.  When I was editing these pictures, I realized I loved everything about this outfit.

Some colors are more equal than others

I usually think I look awful in red, but this deeper cranberry color always tends to catch my eye.  I've learned that jewel tones complement my skin tone better than most brights.

Are there any colors that you think just don't suit you?  You know...colors that you put on and just feel like, how shall I say, bleh?  Hear my sad story [enter violins playing somber music]...

An emerging favorite

This white lace skirt has been one of my favorites to remix this season.  I was excited when I picked it up on a thrifting venture in December for just $3 with the tags still attached, but it's proven to be even more versatile than I thought. You can see the other ways I've worn it here and here.

Overcoming testosterone

So everybody keeps talking about this football game that happened yesterday.  What gives?

Success!!

I did it!  I braved the cold!

I've never seen snow like this in Texas!  It's incredible!

A little bit of cheese

Ya dig the saddle?

Last night, my sisters, niece, mom, and I visited some friends of the family, Rachel and Ruby.  We hung out at their ranch and played the Michael Jackson game for Wii, which, surprisingly, I was pretty darn good at, and ate at a local Italian place, where I had a killer calzone.  Before I left, Rachel, snapped some photos of me - fun ranch props included.

I felt a little cheesy, but let's face it...I take pictures of myself and have a fashion blog - I'm a cheesy person.  But, hey, at least I'm in good company.  :)

As for the skirt I'm wearing, you saw it here, but I decided to remix it!  Which look do you prefer?
